Quabbin Reservoir Smallmouth Fishing

Quabbin Reservoir may be known for its landlocked Salmon but the Quabbin Reservoir smallmouth fishing is pretty impressive. Growing up in New England, the focus of fishing for me was to get to the shore and fish for Blues, Stripers, Flounder and anything else those creepy sandworms could catch.

Much later, I discovered those inland reservoirs as well as glacier-formed ponds and lakes that hold some fantastic smallmouth bass.

Where is the Quabbin?

The Quabbin Reservoir is the largest inland body of water in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and was built between 1930 and 1939. Today along with the Wachusett Reservoir, it is the primary water supply for Boston, some 65 miles (105 km) to the east, as well as 40 other communities in Greater Boston.

The Quabbin’s creation required the flooding, and thus the disincorporation, in April 1938, of four towns: Dana (located in Worcester County), Enfield, Greenwich, and Prescott (all located in Hampshire County).

Fishing is allowed in designated areas in the northern portions of the reservoir. Original source
