The diet of the smallmouth bass varies depending on the body of water you are talking about.  Crayfish are the primary souce of nutrition in many areas.  This can vary a lot, depending on available forage.  For example, in Lake Erie it is now estimated that the round Goby constitutes 90% of the smallmouth diet.
