Smallmouth Fishing at Pineview Reservoir
I recently came across some information regarding smallmouth fishing at Pineview Reservoir. Smallmouth fishing out west is overshadowed by trout, Salmon and other species of fish and not as much is written about smallmouth fishing in the west. I wanted to learn more about Pineview so here are the basics of smallie fishing there.
Pineview Dam is located in the Ogden River Canyon, 7 miles (11 km) east of Ogden, Utah. It was developed as a means of providing reliable irrigation to 25,000 acres (100 km²) located between the Wasatch mountains and the Great Salt Lake. It was built as part of the Ogden River Project, which included the Pineview Dam and Reservoir, Ogden Canyon Conduit, Ogden-Brigham Canal, South Ogden Highline Canal and a gravity-pressure distribution located in the South Ogden Conservation District. Smallmouth fishing at Pineview Reservoir
Located in Huntsville in northern Utah, the reservoir contains six different sportfish: Tiger muskie, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, black crappie, yellow perch and black bullhead catfish.
“The reservoir’s smallmouth bass are often overshadowed by its tiger muskie and panfish,” Penne says. “But fishing for smallmouth bass can be just as much fun.”
Angler Hal Lee from Ogden agrees. “I love fishing for smallmouth bass at Pineview,” says Lee, who has caught numerous smallmouth bass in the three- to five-pound class. Original source here
Pineview Smallmouth Fishing Access
Pineview Reservoir is accessible at anytime from the Port Ramp Marina on the west shoreline. The gates are not locked at this boat ramp.
The only overnight camping at Pineview Reservoir is at Anderson Cove Campground on the south shoreline. If you have questions about the campground, you can contact the campground concessionaire directly at (801) 745-3215 between the hours of 7am and 10pm ONLY.
No known water temperature measurements are kept for Pineview. Like any body of water, temperatures vary based on season and climate.
