Smallmouth Are Part of Food Chain

Holy crap…This kid’s pulling in a nice smallmouth bass on a fly rod and BAM, it gets hit by a huge Musky.

When we are trying to entice a smallmouth to eat, remember the hunter can become the hunted because smallmouth are part of the food chain!

And another one… Northern Pike!

In the Les Cheneaux islands of Michigan a Musky with a huge head inhaled my 10 inch smally sideways and boat-side (the fish left a wake in its trail) and headed back for the channel. I played it briefly and decided I had no chance of recovery. Pulled hard on the line and he released the smallmouth. Boated it, and minus a few scales released the smally back to fight another day.
