Bassmaster has released it’s list of the top 100 bass lakes in the United States. Even better, two of the top 5 are fantastic smallmouth bass fisheries.
Even better, number is one is the amazing smallmouth fishery of Lake St. Clair!. Bassmaster sites the fact that St. Clair is coming on strong as a good largemouth bass lake as well.
Top Bass Lake: Lake St. Clair
Lake St. Clair is a beautiful lake that lies on the border of Michigan and Ontario, Canada. It is connected to Lake Huron by the St. Clair River to the north and by the Detroit River to Lake Erie in the south.
St. Clair’s smallmouth population is legendary, but it is the emergence of its largemouth fishery that solidified its No. 1 ranking. Elite Series pro Jason Christie won the most recent B.A.S.S. event there with a three-day total of 67 pounds, 4 ounces. But the most astounding fact from that July tournament was that 135 of the 147 pro anglers weighed in a five-fish limit every day, with more than 2 tons of bass being weighed in. Source
